Short communication Refinement and characterisation of a thermodynamically stable b-[Ni(Al,Ti)]–b=-[Ni

The Ni–Al–Ti system contains three intermetallic phases, c=, b, and b= which have complementary properties. The objective of the present investigation was to coextrude these three phases to form a metal–metal composite (MeMeC) and investigate the mechanical properties and failure mechanisms of such a material. High strengths, comparable with that of the strongest constituent phase, have been re...

Nanoscale Cellular Structures at Phase Boundaries of Ni-Cr-Al-Ti and Ni-Cr-Mo-Al-Ti Superalloys

The microstructural evolution of Ni-20 pct Cr wires was studied during pack cementation where Al and Ti, with and without prior cementation with Mo, are deposited to the surface of the NiCr wires and subsequently homogenized in their volumes. Mo deposition promotes the formation of Kirkendall pores and subsequent co-deposition of Al and Ti creates a triple-layered diffusional coating on the wir...

GRAIN BOUNDARY SEGREGATION OF B IN Ni

Grain boundary segregation of boron in nickel has been investigated using secondary ion mass spectrometry and FIM-AP techniques. Preliminary results show that segregation is of the equilibrium type which means that boron was concentrated to a few atomic layers at the grain boundaries and that the amount of segregation increased with decreasing annealing temperature.

ELECTRONIC TRANSPORT IN Mo / Ni SUPERLATTICES

An experimental relationship between superconductivity, magnetism and localization is explored in short-wavelength (148 G A < 40A) sputtered Mo/Ni superlattices. A crossover to a superconducting state is observed for A < 9A consistent with the observed paramagnetic behavior when the Ni strata are four atomic layers thick, or less. All samples show localization effects at helium temperatures and...

Cr, Mo and W alloying additions in Ni and their effect on passivity

The passive corrosion properties of a series of Ni–Cr–Mo alloys were investigated. The alloys studied were C22, C2000, C276, C4 and 625. Potentiostatic experiments at potentials within the passive range were obtained as a function of temperature (25–85 ◦C) for each alloy. Each specimen was subsequently analyzed by time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (TOF SIMS) and X-ray photoelectron...
